Welcome to Kindergarten at Westmoreland Christian Academy! Our kindergarten classroom is staffed with a very capable, talented teacher. Also, smaller class size benefits the students by allowing for more individualized attention.

​Kindergarten student will begin each day with pledges, prayer time, and a story. Every day consists of learning phonics, handwriting, number recognition, and more. We spend time every morning learning about the Bible as well. The afternoon includes a rotation of art, music, computers, gym, and chapel.

Westmoreland Christian Academy kindergarten students are given a report card. They are evaluated twice over the course of the school year. This evaluation shows how the child is progressing with gross motor skills, fine motor skills, work habits, social skills, religious development, language skills, math skills, and reading skills.
    
It is typical at the end of the school year that kindergarten students can count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s. They are doing simple addition and subtraction problems, reading clocks, recognizing number words, and reading and writing numbers up to 100. The phonics training enables students to read short words with long and short vowel sounds and common sight words. They write the letters of the alphabet and spell simple words they have sounded out. The reading program includes a series of books that each child may take home and keep after completing them successfully.
    
The kindergarten program is a full day, five day per week program that runs from 8:25 a.m. through 2:45 p.m. Students may not be younger than 5 years old by October 1st to enroll.

Each school day begins with the class reciting pledges (American Flag, Christian Flag, Bible) and prayer. WCA students primarily use the curriculum from A Beka Book publications. It is recognized that the A Beka Book program provides for a more advanced curriculum and a higher level of expectation for the student than would otherwise be encountered in public schools.

​The WCA program of study includes math, reading, phonics, language arts, penmanship, computers, science, history, geography, spelling, health, and physical education. Bible is taught every day as a major subject with one day each week set aside for a chapel service. Instruction in general music and art is also provided.

Students also enjoy field trips and class parties to celebrate special days. Sports programs will be organized and coordinated by the Athletic Director depending on student interest.

This would include Bible, health, music, art, physical education and some special science and history presentations. Other classes are conducted to the specific grade levels such as math and English. Students thrive in this program.

Students having academic difficulties are encouraged to seek individual attention with their instructors to help enable them to keep current with the subject. Teachers are able to give individual attention to the students due to the manageable class sizes. This allows the teacher to catch problems early and to continue to challenge those that are excelling.
    
Students in grades 7 and 8 are encouraged to participate with the high school students in various activities. These activities include athletics, programs, science fairs, and various other activities. This participation provides a benefit to the middle school student as they interact with the older students and the high school level teachers.

​Sports programs will be organized and coordinated by the Athletic Director depending on student interest.

High school students have their classes in a variety of rooms with skilled teachers. We have an excellent teaching staff which allows us to offer a variety of courses. State requirements for credits are met or exceeded. Students should anticipate taking five full credit subjects each year unless they are involved in the college, vo-tech, or school-to-work programs.
    
Every effort is made to help high school students with career and college planning. Here at our own location, WCA conducts the PSAT (practice college entrance testing designed for 9th and 10th grade students). We have the information students need to apply for and study for the SAT’s and/or the ACT. WCA also announces career fairs and will help arrange college visits if we can be of help. Seniors are allowed time off to make these visits.
    
The college co-op program enables students to take additional courses. In this program, credit is given towards high school graduation, and students also receive college credits that can be applied to their college program of study after graduation. Parents assume responsibility for costs associated with courses taken at the college and for transportation
    
Cooperation will be maintained with area vo-tech schools for students in 12th grade. Students must still take subjects required for graduation from WCA, but are also trained for skills in areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, computers, etc. It is the responsibility of the parents to apply for vo-tech studies, as each of these institutions has their own criteria.
    
A school-to-work program is available for students in the 12th grade, enabling early dismissal to go to their workplace. In this program, students are given an evaluation of skills development, job performance and interpersonal skills.
    
WCA primarily uses the A Beka Book curriculum. This company has a very professional reputation and is the most widely used Christian curriculum in the nation. Achievement tests are given in the spring to grades K-12.
    
Some annual events that are highlights for the high school students include the spring formal, the March for Life in Washington, D.C., and a spring missions trip. Various educational field trips are also planned throughout the course of the school year.
